Q's Creative Card Classes on Etsy

After several requests from cardmakers outside of Utah who can't attend my classes at Roberts I have decided to sell my Card Making Kits on Etsy.

I'll miss seeing you of course; there is something so fun about being in a classroom with other creative gals, but I'm always an email away if you have any questions about techniques, or assembly or materials.

I'll be posting a new 'class' every month, so keep checking back!

Hot. Crash. Give-away.

I wish I could share some pictures of my trip to Houston, but someone forgot her camera! Arg!

Not only that, but while I was gone my hard drive crashed. Permanently. Yup. And just last week I was thinking "I really should move the rest of my files over to my external drive". Please, please, please learn from my lesson. Move it! Now!

I'll be bringing the drive to someone tomorrow who hopefully can retrieve my precious files. But in the meantime, I'm kind of stuck. Trying to reload programs and everything else is just not very fun.

On top of that I came home sick and hurt my back (I think moving too many boxes!). Feeling better thank goodness, as I'm going Studio 5 tomorrow and my back is on the road to healing because some lucky woman has a daughter-in-law who is a massage therapist (thanks Tiff!).

I did, however, have a great time in Houston; despite the rain, heat and humidity. I know all you Texas gals probably think I'm a real BABY, as I really struggled with the humidity. For heaven's sake, I grew up on an island, you think I would be used to it! But no, I'm a dry-gal now and I have the wrinkles to prove it! LOL

So, thanks for the hair clip and bobby pin (you know who you all are!). Thanks for keeping me company at lunch (Pam & friends). Thanks to all of you for making my time in Houston so much fun. You were all just a joy to teach and to share my passion for cardmaking with.

As promised, I'm posting my give-away here and wish I could share a picture with you, but am not just set up for that quite yet. So, it'll just have to be a fun surprise! One flat-rate box filled with papercrafting goodies! Of course, whether you saw me in Houston or not, please feel free to leave a comment here with the chance to win this box of goodies.

Lastly, a big shout-out to my new hotel room buddy, Marnie Flores. Thanks for the late-night chats and laughs and I'll see you in Tulsa!

I'm done rambling now. Nighty nite!

Houston CKC

Gorgeous skyscape, isn't it? I always post these beautiful pictures of the cities I teach at, but what's really funny and kind of sad, is I never see any of it!! I see the inside of a cab, my hotel room and the convention center.

Don't get me wrong, I love CKC! But one day I'll go back to really get a feel for these great destinations.

There have been a few exceptions where I get to do some fun 'extra' things, like Tulsa last year (thanks Sheryl!) and Kansas City (Thanks Eva!) and of course I occasionally get to meet with old friends (love ya Kitty!) and meet new ones as well (too long a list to mention!).

I do have a fun plan for when I teach in St. Marcos, TX, but I'll tell you about that when it comes in September. Sorry, that's mean!

So, here's my GOODBYE until Monday and my HELLO to Houston...we're going to have some serious CARD fun!!

Milestones Card Class wrap-up

Here's my April photo montage, are you in there? Click on the photo to embiggen (don't you love made-up words!). Had another fun month with lots of paper-piecing and an easy negative silhouette card. Hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

I did have my youngest student to date. Cute 9-year-old Raylynn (Clinton) who is a amazing little card maker and got to spend a special evening with her Grandmother, Barbara.

A little note about the Cricut Design Studio files. I know it's been frustrating not being able to open the Perfect Pair file. Cricut support has been helping me figure out exactly why you can't open them and bottom line...we don't know! LOL So, they are sending me a new copy and we'll try that next. Cross your fingers!

Finally, here are our winners for April's classes. Of course, randomly selected...

Grand Prize Winner: Sheryl S. in Clinton

Card set winners:
LeAnn K. in South Jordan
Claudia S. in South Jordan
Cathy M. in Centerville
Bethanie S. in Orem
Rosie D. in American Fork
Gina B. in West Jordan

Congratulations! I'll bring your prizes to my next class. If you can't make it I'll leave it at customer service.

Thanks again ladies for attending my classes!

snowy spring photo op

I know I should be peeved that it snowed in April, but this morning, with the sun slicing through the branches, making every color brilliant and every snow crystal sparkle, I felt blessed. I ran to find my uggs and my camera and spent a good hour taking pictures, getting wet, cold and enjoying this late winter gift.

I measured...8 inches of fluffy, heavy, perfect for snowmen snow. Amazing.

My Pear tree is half-way through blooming. The snow was so heavy it kept falling on me while I was taking pictures. I should have taken a picture of me, I was quite a sight!

My precious Rhododendrons were almost completely covered. I took a few pictures and then rescued them from all that snow. They are pretty sensitive plants and really don't belong in Utah, but if you baby them enough you'll get some show.

Just planted Renunculas and Yellow Pansies in my garden on Monday. Luckily these are super hardy flowers that seem to flourish with a cooler spring.

I replaced a dying tree in our front yard last year with a plum tree and was a little worried it may not survive the winter. It made me very happy to see it's beautiful pink blossoms pop out! It lives!

I've been working on my wee vegetable garden for 6 weeks now and just the other day planted the rest of my seeds and transplanted a few hardy herbs, hope they make it!

My Hyacinths and my Forsythia bush are on the downside of blooming, but what color they have left really pops with all that white snow around them. They almost look good enough to eat! Little flower ice pops!

The first tree I planted when we moved into this home 13 years ago was a Crimson Cloud Hawthorn. Somewhat obscure, but my Mother recommended it. She grew up with many of these trees in North Germany. I'm so glad I followed her advice. It's a tree that just keeps giving. Beautiful bark and bones for the winter, delicate and pretty white and pink blossoms in the spring, nice shade in the summer and crimson berries in the fall. It looks pretty good dressed in snow too!

Well, there you have it, a little tour of my garden. I hope you enjoyed seeing a little of what I saw this morning.

Custom printed acetate...yahoo!

A few months ago I invested (yup, because it's kind of pricey, around $1 a sheet) in a package of Ink Jet Transparency Film. I've finally gotten around to playing with it and I'm in LOVE!

It was Ladies Night on Saturday at Roberts Crafts here in Utah and I had the pleasure of doing make-and-takes. I chose to use fellow Paper Crafts Pro Kim Kesti's design from CKC because it's so quick and easy. I love alliteration, so how does Kim Kesti is the Queen of Quick Cards sound?

I changed up the design a bit and created the window (because I just love peeking through things!) and printed the sentiment on the acetate. I love to share, so download 3 FREE circle sentiments for you to print off for yourselves. Notice it's backwards? It needs to be because it's printed on the rough side of the acetate and you'll want the smooth side up. I've also included the right-side as well, if you just want to print the sentiments on paper.

P.S. I found the exact film I used at Staples, but found the best price at Amazon, although it's specifically for HP printers.

Good luck and Have fun!

Monochromagic

Creating a card in monochrome (monochromatic colors are all the hues - tints and shades - of a single color) is a surprisingly creative & fun challenge.

Racing through your stash, creating a collection of similar hued elements can be very satisfying... just add a basic neutral (white, black, natural) and you've got a peaceful but dramatic design.

Please join me next month for my Mono Magic Card class and we'll explore a world of color and create 5 easy, beautiful cards.
