Cut & Print Technique Video for Cards

Those of you familiar with my work, either through the Paper Crafts Magazine, but especially through Q's Creative Classes, I love to share my Cut & Print Technique.  It has literally changed the way I create with paper.

I've been getting more requests lately, from newer students who would like to know how to do this, so I'm reposting this video I did with Northridge Publications about 1 1/2 years ago.  In it I explain the whole process, so enjoy!

Oh my goodness, Susan Neal and Kristine McKay (super crafty Studio 5 contributor) in the same room! We had SO much fun doing this. Too much fun! We had to do several takes because we just went on and on and on. Hope you enjoy the tips, ideas and free downloads!

I knew when I found this quote by Jane Austin, that it would make the perfect birthday card.  There's nothing more celebratory than banners, so it was a great fit.  Download the PDF (or use the JPEGS) to print out 2 cards per 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of white cardstock.  (scroll down the page a bit to find it, as it is older). The rest is scoring, folding and getting creative with punched out circles.  Mix & Match, change up the colors and make a bunch!

Here's another quick card that requires a scallop edged circle paper.  Cut off the scallops and follow the step-by-steps below.

Cut & Print technique: This is by far my favorite and most requested technique.  You'll be able to customize every card (or scrapbook page!) and will save you money.

Create your sentiment on a word program or photo editing software.  There are thousands of free fonts to download; I like having a huge selection to suit my mood and project.

Print sentiment on plain printer paper.  Place the sentiment in the center of the page, but not right at the top.

Use re-positional adhesive to tack die-cut (or punch, or sticker or whatever else you want to print on) directly over the printed sentiment.  To check that your placement is correct, hold the page up to a light source.  Move if necessary.

Run the page back through the printer.  Perfect placement everytime!  You can download the PDF (or JPEG) on my free download page.  Enjoy!

Here's another trick...distress the edges of your die-cut before you remove it to place on your project.  So much easier!

Help me send Birthday wishes?

For years I would suggest a no-fuss birthday for me to my family & friends. "really, it's no big deal", "just another day", blah, blah, blah. I have no idea why I did that. It's not like I am anti-aging. Regardless, as the years went by, and my family & friends ignored my pleas, I started to enjoy all the attention...now I say "bring it on!", and they do :).

Today, I have a chance to 'fuss' over someone and I'm wondering if you'd like to help?

Kristin, a scrapbooking friend from Pennsyvania, has a daughter, Hailey, that will be turning 16 on March 27th.

Hailey has Asperger's Syndrome, which is a high functioning autism. Knowing how much Hailey LOVES and TREASURES any cards or things she gets in the mail, Kristin is asking everyone/anyone to send her a card. Kristin's husband is currently laid off and Hailey doesn't ask for much, so she thought this would really make her sweet sixteen, well, sweet...and a great blessing.

Please send cards to:

Now, as a side note...if you're wondering about that cute birthday card, you're in luck. Well, kind of. The very first time I got in front of a camera I did a series of videos for the Creating Keepsakes website.

And you can tell. oh, my, it's a little embarrassing, but I'm not one to avoid laughing at myself, so come on and join me!

I'm glad for that first opportunity though, as I permanently got rid on those butterflies (I was a little nervous), and moved on to do a series of instructional videos for CK Media and of course, my stint with Studio 5 and have loved every moment of it.

Introduction...and yes, that is Megan Hoeppner! Currently creative editor for Creating Keepsakes Magazine and regular Studio 5 contributor, but at the time intrepid editor for Paper Crafts Magazine.

Here's the rest of them...they divided them up into several segments. I believe they separated them into 7 segments because they released one a day over a week's period.

Creating the Base of the card, ribbon and brad. I think the skipped something here, but you get the gist.

Cutting the cake die-cut. I've already said the word "fun" more than I care to admit. (sorry Steve...I know how much you love the word 'fun'!)

Distressing...yup, I've been doing that a long time and still love the look.

Layering and assembling the die-cuts.

But wait...there's more!

Finishing the card...my goodness, I do it much quicker in class, don't I?
