House die-cut Contest - Entries & Winners!

I'm sorry this was delayed.  Returned from our camping trip to a dead monitor.  Fortunately, I bought it at Costco last December and was able to return it no problem.  Got to love Costco!

I want to thank everyone who took the time to enter my little contest.  I hope, even if you didn't win, that you enjoyed the creative challenge.  Know that we all will enjoy seeing what you've done with our little House die-cut. You've really shown us creative possibilities!

Let's start with our winners!  And let me just say these were not judged by me, but by independant card-makers looking for composition, execution and creativity.  Personally, I really enjoyed each entry and am inspired...hope you will be to!

Grand Prize Winner: Sandra Carrigan (Clinton, UT) for her House Album Card.  Sandra created a little wooden door with a mesh insert, little bits of lace and trim, cute die-cuts and lots of room for pictures and journaling.

2nd prize winner: Debra Gardner (American Fork, UT) for her clever gate fold card.  A velcro piece keeps the card closed, the inside reveals a darling paper pieced house and sentiment.

3rd prize winner: Debra Wertz (Clinton, UT) for her Beach house card.
The texture on the beach house in incredible and I know took a lot of thought and time.

To remind you about the great prizes our winners will receive please visit this post.

Here are the rest of the entries!  All of whom will receive a little gift bag for the time they took to participate in the contest.

Gwen Lords (South Jordan, UT) made this sweet Welcome to the Neighborhood card.  I love how the light shines through the windows and the grass strip at the bottom.

Barbara Poulsen got me in the Halloween mood early with this perfect adaption for a house die-cut.  Lots of distressing, glitter and dimension really brought this card to life.

I love how Ronda Bateman used the rectangle patterns on her patterned paper to give shape to her house.

Sandra Bosh submitted this adorable card. Great bold colors and shapes and how the sentiment ties in with her background paper.

Judy Verbeck went all-out with this incredibly detailed card.  You almost need to touch this card to appreciate it properly.  Everything is so tactile and dimensional.  Snowy landscape, handing icicles, and christmas lights make this this a very special card.

This beautiful card is by Gaylene Godfrey.  I love all the feminine details, from pearls and lace to pretty paper.  I think the free form stitching really adds a lot to the card as well.

Debra Wertz was feeling particularly creative for this contest (she actually won my last creative card contest).  I love this creative use of a house shape, all the little details and Debra's hand drawn elements really make this card unique.
Thanks again for all your hard work, I hope you had fun and enjoyed the challenge!

Q's Creative House Contest - Prizes!

I ran out of time before my vacation, but I'm home now and am excited to reveal the 3 prizes for my House Die-cut Contest!

3rd prize receives Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities book (value $25) and a collection of trinkets and ephemera.

2nd prize receives all that plus Tim Holtz's new trinket box (value $35), perfect to store all those little things that make your creative work special.

1st place Grand Prize receives all that plus the larger Tim Holtz Cargo Case!  The prefect, very cool place to store more than just trinkets, but distress ink, markers and glitter glue for a total retail value of over $120.

Need a little reminder...here is my original post for the contest:  Whenever I design a card with my favorite negative silhouette technique, I end up with the a lot of positive shapes and just can't bear to throw it away...so I'm having a contest!

The last time I did this was 2 years ago, my Classic Card Contest.  You can read about it here and here.

I haven't listed the prizes, but there will be 3 prizes, the Grand prize and 2 runner-ups.  Grand prize will be lots of paper crafting goodies worth at least $50.

How to enter?  If you purchased my Domestic Bliss Card Class in May, the die-cut will be included in the kit.  You can also die-cut your own shape.  This particular one is from the Cricut Kate's ABCs cartridge.  But I did stretch it out a bit in Design studio.  I'm not too picky, as long as the shape looks pretty much like the one I've posted here.  There are many house shapes in Cricut cartridges.  You can also cut out your own.

Simply email me your entry with a photo or scan of your project.  The better the photo, the better the entry!  If you'd prefer to enter the project physically, you can bring it to my June class (Color-pop) and I'll photograph it for you.
Project can be anything creative!  I just need to be able to see the shape of the house somewhere.  A card, a tag, a gift bag, home decor, scrapbook layout etc...
Entries are due Thursday, June 21st and winners will be chosen July 8th.   Sure hope you can join in on the fun!

Pink supplies winner, a free download and a few thoughts

Despite a busy week, I found some time Friday night to check my emails and was very much taken off guard by all the touching responses I've had to my Cancer Journey Album post.

I was brought to tears by the outpouring of love and concern we all have for our sisters, mothers, friends and sadly, even children who have had cancer. Some have survived and some have not.

I pray that one day there will be a cure.  Until then, let's continue to uplift and give courage to those around us.  I think making an album similar to mine would make such a meaningful gift.

And since only one person can win my pink supplies, I thought I might be able to help you by creating a free digital version of the "what cancer cannot do" poem.  I hope you like it.  there are several versions, some without the butterflies and flowers, some in pink, some in black instead of brown.  You can download them here.

So, with the help of a random number generator our winner tonight is Bella (bellameabhn).  Please email me with your mailing address and I'll get this off to you asap.

Thanks again ladies for sharing your special stories with us all and God Bless!

"What Cancer Cannot do" JOURNEY album

Paper crafting, for the most part is a light-hearted hobby; Birthdays, Thank yous, holidays etc...  It can, however, play a more heartfelt role in the lives of our family & friends.

I got an email from a student this week asking if I knew of any inspirational quotes or poems for people who have cancer.  The first thing that came to my mind was a project I did for Paper Crafts Magazine many years ago.

The whole project was based around a rubber stamp with a poem/quote on what Cancer cannot do.  At the time I had a good friend who had just been diagnosed for the second time with Ovarian cancer and I was very tuned into how this sentiment might help.

Journaling can be a significant part in dealing with any of life's challenges, and cancer is no exception.  Creating a place to record your journey, treasuring the people who are helping you, remembering your day-to-day challenges while finding peace and hope can be very cathartic.

Maybe you know someone who could use a memento like this?  Maybe you need some pink supplies to create it?  I gathered a collection of pink paper crafting supplies (including ink, pins, brads, rub-ons, ribbon, stickers and brads) and would love to give them away to someone in need.

Please share why you'd like this collection of pink supplies and I'll pick a winner on Sunday night.

I want to thank all who entered my Classic Car Card Contest!  I know it's tough to design with something so specific, but I really think our entries caught the vision and made some super-creative cards!

Our FIRST PRIZE winner is Debbie Wertz with this incredible wedding card.  I think what really makes this card special is all the details Debbie drew into the car shape.  I also love the embossed polka dot background.  You can see what Debbie and the others won here. You can click on images to see a bigger version.

Q's Creative Card Class Classic-Car Contest!

Seriously, let's see how many 'c's I can put in this title! It's my First ever contest and I'm really excited about it.

If you attended my Man Card Class in June or bought a kit you know that you got two extra car shapes in your kit...the positive cars from out classic car card.

(Note: I have Man Card Kits in stock, but won't be shipping until July 16th.)

Use one or both of those car shapes (or cut your own if you have the cartridge) and create a card. Any card, any size or shape. As many submissions are you like. Keeping the rules nice & easy.

I just want to see just how creative you can all be with the classic car shape.

I have some great prizes planned, but you'll have to wait until the end of July to see them...still waiting on a few of them, but they're going to be great! So get thinking, get creative, think OUTSIDE of the box (or car) and have lots of fun.

Deadline is September 15, 2010, so you have lots of time and I'll send you plenty of reminders. You can submit a photo or scan by email or bring your card to class in September.

I cannot wait to see what you all come up with!

Studio 5 January Sneak Peek Contest

Ok, this was hard to do...the paper crafting part of this would have been way too easy with photos of the actual projects, so I had to get tricky.

Please watch Studio 5 on KSL, Channel 5 in Salt Lake City, tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11am for my 2 segments. I'm making one of my family's favorites and having fun with...well, you'll just have to guess.

If you're not local or can't watch the show, please visit later for videos.

Just leave a comment with your guesses and I'll pick a winner tomorrow!

Good luck guessing!
