As we approach Thanksgiving, my energies turn to preparation. How many for dinner? How will I fit them all? What to make? When?
Today, I listened in Church (yes, I do that occasionally!) and was reminded of what I really need to be doing, not just now, as the weather cools, as the trees bare their bones and snow dusts our mountain tops, but every day, all year.
Shakespeare said, "O lord, that lends me life, lend me a heart replete with thankfulness." (King Henry).
Nothing, truly, nothing makes me happier than when I'm counting my blessings. And since I'm all about the JOY, I'm going to spend the next few weeks sharing extra thankfulness with God, my family and you. I'm hoping you'll share that moment with me.
Being grateful for my life has the uncanny ability to simply WIPE out all my noisy complaints, if even for a moment.
I'm reminded of Corrie Ten Boom's sister, Betsie, (The Hiding Place - one of my favorite books) who, despite her time in a concentration camp and all the degradations that followed her there, was able to thank God for the fleas, because they kept the guards at bay and enabled them to read their precious bible.
I want to be like that. I want to turn my 'fleas' into blessings.
